An inspiring evening celebrating women in homecare leadership

The quality of care someone receives is shaped by many things: the skill of their support worker, the warmth of the relationship, the systems working quietly in the background. But it also depends on something less visible the strength and values of the people leading the service.

That’s why we were proud to see our Director, Alison Wright, at An Evening for Women Leaders in Homecare, hosted by Birdie in London on Wednesday 8 July.

The evening brought together women from across the sector for conversation, networking and shared learning, a chance to hear from experienced leaders, reflect honestly on the challenges facing social care, and connect with others determined to change it for the better.

Learning from those who lead

At the centre of the evening was a panel discussion on leadership journeys, the pressures facing the sector, and the value of learning from one another – the kind of open conversation that rarely happens in the day-to-day rush of running a service.

"A huge thank you to the fantastic panellists Katie Wordley, Kiran Gill and Jo Dumville for sharing their experiences, insights and leadership journeys. The discussion was inspiring, thought-provoking, and a great reminder of the impact strong female leadership continues to have across the social care sector."

Progress happens together

For Alison, some of the greatest value came not from the stage but from the room, the chance to meet others carrying the same commitment to doing right by the people in their care.

"It was wonderful to connect with so many passionate professionals committed to driving positive change in home care."

It’s a reminder that no organisation improves in isolation. The best thinking in social care travels between people willing to share honestly what works, what doesn’t, and what they’re still figuring out.

Why this matters at Special People

We believe strong leadership in care is built through listening, learning and collaboration and that the standard set at the top is felt all the way through to the people we support every day. Investing in our leaders is one of the ways we invest in the quality and dignity of the care we provide.

We’re proud to see Alison representing Special People at an event celebrating women in leadership, and the difference they continue to make across the homecare sector.

A big thank you to Birdie for hosting such an inspiring evening. 💜
